About KeepLocal

KeepLocal answers one question: how European is the brand in your hand, and what could you buy instead? Every brand, store and service gets a score from 1 to 5 stars, based on who ultimately controls it, where its own headquarters are and where it is made. Every fact carries a source you can open yourself.

Who runs it

KeepLocal is made by Dick Tump, from the Netherlands, as a personal project. There is no company behind it, no revenue and no referral links. Nothing on the site is paid for by a brand, and no brand is told about its score before it is published.

Why it exists

Ownership information exists, spread across annual reports, trade registers and investor pages, but nobody reads all that while standing in a shop. The site collects those facts, applies one published method to them and shows the result in a form that fits a phone screen.

The score is an opinion built on transparent rules and sourced facts. It says nothing about the quality of a product, and nothing about the conduct of a company. “Controlled from the United States” is the whole sentence.

Corrections

Facts change, and a fact on this site can be wrong. If you find one, use the contact form or the “report a mistake” link on the brand page. Corrections and takedown requests are answered promptly, and every change is visible in the public change history.
